Scott Brown Campaign: Shhh!!! A secret we can now share with you all!

About Scott Brown Campaign: Shhh!!! A secret we can now share with you all!

Over the past several days as the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts heated up, the available "inventory" of advertising spots to buy from the TV networks dried up.

And then disappeared entirely.

On cable we here at the Tea Party Express were not able to purchase any additional local spots. Zero. None. Nada.

Before the TV stations ran out of spots they were jacking their rates ever higher and higher. The cost for TV ads in the state skyrocketed to the point of costing around the same price as NATIONAL TV Ads.

And then it hit us: why not go and buy our spots on the NATIONAL cable networks. If they are going to cost almost as much, and if we can go buy ads that will run in Massachusetts (but that Martha Coakley's campaign had not thought to buy) - then it's a fantastic opportunity for us!

So this put us at a great competitive advantage over Democrat Martha Coakley's campaign.

Here's why: When you watch cable television networks you'll see commercial blocks. Each time commercials come on they are part NATIONAL and part LOCAL. Local operators are given so many spots to sell to local advertisers, and the rest of the spots are for NATIONAL advertisers.

Since the local cable systems were "SOLD OUT" of advertising spots, then the only way to reach voters via cable channels was on NATIONAL programming.

But Martha Coakley, Barack Obama and company failed to realize this. So we went up on the air nationally - adding dozens more TV ads to our buy, while the Democrats in Massachusetts were locked out of buying any more ads on those same cable channels.

  5. Hi Verga: We waited until it was too late to get a spot to the networks, have standards & practices approve it, and the spots to be placed. Logs for tomorrow have now closed for the cable networks.

And a lot of our people were curious (some excited) about seeing our ads nationally.

So we decided to tell our supporters what was going on and what the strategy was.

  6. Hahaha, no wonder I am seeing ads in virginia. Great job, glad I donated!

  7. Couldn't be there in person but GLAD to donate to the cause!

  8. Brilliant! Proud I was able to help a teeny tiny amount. Go Scott!

  9. i am watching Sean Hannity right now and just saw one of your commercials. i thought 'wow, going national for a state election.' but now it makes sense.

    well done.

  10. Larry: There were NO "teeny tiny" amounts donated in this campaign.

Every single dollar donated to any group involved in running ads or helping the Brown campaign on the ground was extremely valuable.

And the particular reason why: Because across this country hundreds of thousands of people were following your lead. They too were making donations - some just $1 or $5. Others gave the maximum allowed to the campaign and then also "maxed out" in giving to 3rd parties who were supporting Brown (like the Tea Party Express).

The net result was that there were thousands upon thousands of "teeny tiny" donations. And when pooled together that resulted in so much money the campaign could purchase ads, print literature, pay for postage, staff and office supplies, rent/purchase phone lines, etc...

So every donation impacted this race somehow.

  12. I'm in California and I saw one of your announcements today!! I wondered about it being shown here and you have just solved the puzzle!!

I've been hearing about Brown regularly from Mitt Romney, too... WE all need to work together come election day, 2010!!! Many thanks, btw...and GOOD LUCK to Scott Brown!!!

  15. Congrats. As a long time media professional, you couldn't have come up with a better strategy! Congrats, I hope this works, puts Government on notice that the People have spoken and cannot be ignored. Again, Scott Brown put it succinctly "The Seat IS NOT Ted Kennedy's Seat, it's the Peoples Seat!

  16. Wondered why we were seeing the ads in Nevada - but it is a good thing. Harry Reid has to be shaking in his boots since he has ads ALREADY everywhere - including all over Facebook

  19. Uhm, so wheres the "secret" part?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree that this should not have been revealed. That's been a big problem with Republicans for years: They go on talk shows, FOX NEWS, etc, and share their strategies and tactics. To add insult to injury, I have seen and heard them actually give advice on what Obama should do to work through a political problem. Karl Rove does it on a daily basis on FOX.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Never let them see your playbook.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree, you shouldn't reveal your strategy. We're dealing with a sneaky and cagey bunch. You need to hold your cards close to the vest because there's still a lot of work to be done in Nov! Go Scott!

    ReplyDelete
  23. As a contrbutor from California I was gratified to see your national strategy. This election can have a major national impact on programs such as health czre, if the Scott wins and the Dems don't try to pull a fast one on certification (get the attorneys ready).

The national ads may have pulled in contributions from outside Massachusetts, though I was responding to an email solicitation.

  26. After the "fact" it would soon become apparent to the Democrats what y'all did...so not a problem telling it now! I personally think it's all the prayers that have bombarded heaven recently that gave us the edge and the inspiration to go national on cable.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just waiting for the results. I have a bottle of Cranberry wine chilled to drink a toast to the Scott Brown Victory.

    ReplyDelete
  28. tcooper: Sorry, but this had to be revealed. Had a lot of people wondering (most excited, some concerned) about why there were national ads.

Don't worry - the Democrats already saw them and realized that. They've been quite upset by it all :-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. YOU GUYS ARE ONE SMART DETERMINED GROUP.
GLAD THAT I DONATED TO SCOTT TWICE...

I CANNOT EVEN 'LOOK' AT THESE DIMOCRAT SLIMES ANYMORE.

DO NOT GIVE UP OR GET 'SQUISHY'! DESTROY THEM.
NONE OF THIS 'REACHING ACROSS THE ISLE CRAP'.

THIS A WAR AND WE 'MUST, MUST, MUST WIN.

  41. Don't tell everything you know, they will use it against us. I only watch Fox news. We are fighting against a very corrupt Democrat party. I'm from Kansas & I donated because we all will suffer if we can't stop them from destroying our Country. I'm so sick of seeing the hateful face of Obama, Reid & Pelosi. I hope the people of California and Nevada follow Massachusetts lead. We need to get rid of these Socialists pigs.

  53. Well done, Well done. I'm so glad i supported this campaigne. You go Scott Brown, I will support you all the way. And yes no matter what you donate its for the cause of getting a better America back. Get that socialist out, as Im sure he will not be re-elected for another term.

  54. Hope this will end in an avalanche of tea (even tea "bags" as our detractors so smugly insult us with the appelation "tea baggers." With tea we shall flush them out of Washington; the "O" ending up on the trash heap of American history.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am so glad to also play a small part in this amazing race. Made my contribution from way out here on the left coast of California. 74. Pam from Il just illuminated the problem I have with donating to the GOP. When they call requesting donations I tell them that as long as they support RINOs, we will support individual conservative candidates, not the GOP.

Thanks Tea Party Express for helping us to do that!

    Go Scott.

    ReplyDelete
  75. My husband and I donated to Scott Brown's campaign through Tea Party Express and are excited to see his 5 point lead in the polls today! We get requests often for donations to the GOP, but I think we'll save our donations for Tea Party-backed candidates! Thank you for your hard work!

  78. It the most priceless gift you have given the American People, the light of the faces with the
patriots smile, standing beside Scott Brown. To
hear the shock and awe mumblings coming out of every liberal commentator was great! If I would have known this would have been so eventful, I would have given 10 x more!! Fantastic..

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great strategy. I had to donate just to do my part from Maryland in helping to block Obamacare in its present closed door form. Kick those communists out! We need more representation like we can expect from Senator Scott Brown!

Now, don't let them block him from being installed immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I saw this ad in WA state!

    Keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Great victory but this is only one little baby step. We as a nation need to flush the toilet on both sides of the aisle in Nov.And lets not forget that the real battle is in the primaries.
Kennedy's seat hell,Brown was right on when he said the seat belongs to the people of Mass. and they proved it today.

  82. Great Job! I think it was providential the ads had to go National. Just think of the people who saw the Tea Party message and hopefully contributed! We must keep up the pressure, ie work at the local level to get and vet canndidates, contribute to ones who follow the Constitution and get things done. "Draft" people from Business and Industry who know what it is to run a business, make tough decisions based on real life and who understand common sense economics! My husband & I are participants in Tea Party groups in OK & KS. We donate to specific candidates, no longer to RNC. We donated to Brown 2X and 1X for him to Tea Party Express, + e mailed everyone I could, to do same.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Those who dogged Obama's footprints were dumb to do so, though many supported at first until they saw the light, and I give thanks to them.

However, those who stayed with Hussein were too dumb, and too ignorant, and too celebrative of their drivers seat position, to think of using national outlets to place ads on.

They can only blame themselves for that.

    ReplyDelete
  84. so delighted Brown won. It sends a message all across the coutry. The momentum is GROWING! We are making a difference!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Running the ads nationally is the first salvo in taking the Tea Party message across the country and taking back Congress this November. With Scott Brown's victory, the Democrats (i.e. Socialists) are already quaking in their boots. Imagine "Teddy Kennedy's seat" going to a conservative Republican. Lunatic Keith Olberman is vomiting all over himself.

So sending "THE LITTLE BIT I OWNED" to THE TEA PARTY & SCOTT BROWN was WORTH IT 10 FOLD!!! If The SOCIALIST PIGS try to deny him his seat just to past The OBAMACARE BILL, I will be ready to MARCH ON WASHINGTON!!!! I am SO HAPPY to belong to THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT! So THANK GOD for THE TEA PARTY & SCOTT BROWN!!! Now it's TIME for THE REVOLUTION TO BEGIN & FLUSH this SOCIALIST GOV'T in Nov 2010/2012!!!

The independent spirit of this nation is alive and well! Just vote them out! is my new mantra. And when the Obama White House and the democrats respond to this political tsunami with their usual arrogance and disrespect for the people's will, Americans will be chanting in three years "2013 GONE."

  110. So, as I watched ads for a race in MA here in AZ, I thought WHY? Now I know.
My friend just made a tshirt that says "Scott Brown won the People's seat. Are you listening, or are you next? ( Tea Parties Rock )"
Very smart out of the box thinking on the ads.

We must have only truly competent, truly conservative, strong candidates, so that even when the libs come and vote in the Republican Primaries, which they do in huge numbers, no matter who wins will still be a win for conservatives, unlike the scenario leading up to the 2008 Presidential Election. We must be paying attention and working for the primaries. If we wait until the general election, it's too late!

  120. Bravo TPX! This is precisely the kind of thinking on your feet that win these kind of races! I know that Brown will dissappoint us at times in the Senate, but he will do so far less than Coakley would have done that is for certain!

We now have to come together for the Republican Primary in ILLINOIS for Obama's Senate seat - and then for the actual election for his seat. Wouldn't that be a devastating blow to Nobama if his party lost HIS seat in Liberal Illinois only weeks after the most liberal state in the nation elected a Republican?!?!?! Heck yeah, and that's why I will be involved in that election in some way...

  123. By going National, it gave the country a chance to contribute and help save us from ObamaCare, and other piggish and criminal Democratic programs. Go get them Scott.

  124. Obama wants control of health care because of the HUGE COST of the entitlement programs. He says no one gets a free ride. That should go for ALL people, not just the working tax payers. I know the direct but only solution. People on medicaid can,t contribute money but they CAN and SHOULD be required to contribute their time and talents. If. required to do so I KNOW many would choose instead to be self sufficient. Also It would be much less expensive and no more degrading if cared for like the elderly and others who are unable to care for themselves. Provide a safe, warm place of shelter, food and daily needs in GROUP setting. They could care for each others children, clean, cook,(nutritious instead of high fat, prepackaged, or fast foods) so that they are able to get an education become self sufficient and contribute to society. I come from an area that takes great advantage and missuses the system. Please send this message to as many people as you can. I would like to receive feedback.

  125. How come the only mention of Scotts vote, WITH the Dems, was only mentioned by Michael Savage? He refers to Brown as Benedict Arnold!

  127. CONGRESS SHOULD NOT BE EXEMPT FROM HAVING THE SAME HEALTH CARE COVERAGE THEY ARE TRYING TO RAM DOWN OUR THROATS. IF IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM WHY SHOULD WE BE FORCED TO HAVE IT. I BET IF THEY WERE NOT EXEMPT THEY WOULD MAKE ALOT OF CHANGES AND VOTE NO TO THIS BILL.
